Synopsis
This play depicts jury deliberations in a murder case.
The first vote is 11 to 1 to convict but ....

The story by Reginald Rose is based on his experiences as a juror. As the play opens, a twelve-man jury is sent to begin deliberations in the murder trial of a young man accused of killing his father. None of the characters are named during the deliberations, but the names of the cast members are impressive, to say the least.

The story being produced in the round pits 12 men talking about the evidence and about each other. Alliances are formed and broken, heated debates lead to  revelations, and discoveries provide suspense.

What makes this play work is the fact that the audience does not know if the accused is guilty or innocent. So you evaluate the evidence and clues along with the jury. This play portrays the deliberation process almost in "real time," taking approximately ninety minutes to come to a verdict.
