Meet Wayne Brinda

Director of TREASURE ISLAND & !2 ANGRY MEN

Wayne is the Founder and Producing Director of Prime Stage. He has been directing and developing programs for preteens, teenagers, families, educators and adults for over 30 years with schools and theatres in the tri-state area.  He received a Master's Degree in Theatre with a specialization in Theatre for Youth from Penn State University in 1987 and is currently pursuing a Doctor in Education degree from Duquesne University with an emphasis in Leadership. As the founder of Prime Stage, he has produced and directed the world premieres of THE MUSIC LESSON, CLEMENTE – A MEASURE OF A MAN, ANGEL IN THE NIGHT, WADE IN THE WATER and WE WILL REMEMBER: A TRIBUTE TO VETERANS.

Developing partnerships in the community and creating educational programs for adolescents and educators has been a priority for Wayne with Prime Stage and as the Director of Playhouse Jr. where he expanded the traditional fare of the theatre to include close adaptations of literature, commissioned works by nationally recognized playwrights, supplemental educational materials and programs for teachers and specialized theatre-in-education programs with middle and elementary schools, in addition to collaborative projects with The Carnegie Library and other local organizations.

While at the Pittsburgh Playhouse Jr., Wayne founded DramaWorks, a distinctive professional company which produces plays for visually and multiply-disabled children. Since its inception in 1990, DramaWorks has performed at The Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children, The Pioneer Center, First Night in Waynesboro, Virginia and at other schools and organizations.

As an educator, Wayne has taught at Sewickley Academy Senior School from 1976-1984, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera Academy and currently teaches English at The Oakland School. Additional credits include the Director of The Red Barn Theatre in Allison Park, Guest Director for Robert Morris Colonial Theatre, The Acting Company, Open Stage Theatre and The Duquesne University Red Masquers.
